This month, I'm the guest advice columnist
for an online publication and community
forum at
www.womenworking.com.
Feel free to drop by and visit or join
the community. It's a relatively
new one for me, but from what I can see,
the members there are open, generous and
helpful.
One of the organizations I'm involved
in is the Grand Canyon Minority Supplier
Development Council (www.gcmsdc.org).
This is the Arizona arm of the national
council (www.nmsdc.org)
that certifies businesses as minority
owned for those organizations that want
to do business with a diverse supplier
base. |

|
I've been elected Vice Chair of the Minority
Business Enterprise Input Committee for the
2008 year, and look forward to serving the organization
in helping create stronger connections between
the minority business community and corporate
America. If you belong to either of these
categories and are similarly inclined, I invite
you to find a local chapter in your neck of
the woods and get involved.
I also want to thank those of you who have
completed the survey I mentioned last month.
But no clear winner yet on a new title or
preference for your favorite photo.
So there's still time to vote. I don't want
to reveal the results just yet because I don't
want to influence your opinion.
If you’d like to sway the future though,
there's still time to weigh in on the final
selection of a new title and new photo, please

REALLY VALUE YOUR INPUT! |

ARTICLE – COMMUNICATING YOUR VALUE |
|
 |
I feel like I am undervalued. What can I
do to demonstrate to my boss that I’m
worth more?
Many people believe that if they just do
good work, that they will be noticed, appreciated
and promoted. As with most other ‘products’,
success depends on good marketing too.
Here’s how you can accomplish that
without feeling like you’re ‘brown-nosing’
too much.
Review your accomplishments for the last
year or two. Identify how your team,
department or company benefited from your
efforts. Did you create a new process
that saved time and money? Did the
project create goodwill in the community?
Could the thing you produced be used as
a model for future projects in your department
or others? Did it make life easier
for anyone (and therefore save money)?
Always look for ways to quantify the impact
of what you have done. Nothing speaks
louder than higher sales, lower expenses
or improved productivity (which translates
to higher profits).
Also, let your boss know that you are ready
for additional challenges. Volunteer
to participate on a task force that will
solve some challenge your department or
company is facing. Or better still,
identify a problem and offer to create and
lead a task force to deal with the issue. |
