 Message From The President

Welcome to the first edition of Dream Leader Direct: Business Development.  These issues will be devoted specifically to growing and running your business.  You'll get tips on sales, marketing and other timely business management ideas.

 FEATURE ARTICLE – GROWING FROM REFERRAL BUSINESS

Most business owners and sales professionals I know HATE making cold calls.  Many of them don't even like making warm calls.  If the thought of picking up the phone sends shivers up your spine or inspires you to clean off your desk instead, you need to read this.

 

One of the fastest and easiest ways to grow your business is by having a strong referral base. Referrals make your life so much easier.  

 

There are a ton of benefits to a referral based business including:

  • Your network and reach increase exponentially. (Remember six degrees of separation?)
  • Your credibility automatically is established before you even have that first conversation with a prospect
  • You don't have to work so hard for each sale
  • The sales cycle is shortened dramatically; sales close MUCH faster
  • Prospects will buy more from you when you've been 'endorsed'

Think about it.  Don't you hate going to the phone directory or the internet to find a provider of a product or service you want or need? Aren't you relieved when a trusted colleague or friend says "I know a person who is great at (or has great)..."?

So the issue is, how do you become one of those people that other people tell other people about (in a good way, of course)?

First you have to ask.  I know a lot of people who are reluctant to ask for referrals.  They don't want to appear needy or desperate or too 'sales-y'.  Do you suffer from that?

Second, you have to train people on how to give you good referrals.  If you don't, they're likely to hand you a card or give you a name and number and leave you fending for yourself.

I have a system that virtually guarantees you'll increase the referrals that come your way.  I've been working on it for a little while now and it's almost ready.  I can't wait to share it with you.
