| Spring
has sprung! We’re in a new season and about
to begin a new calendar quarter. Your New Year’s
resolutions or other goals may be still in full swing
or abandoned and forgotten. For those of you that
caught the Fox10 show on staying on track with your
goals, I hope it was helpful. If you missed it or
couldn’t see it (it was only on the Phoenix
affiliate), we’ll have a clip of it posted on
the website (hopefully) shortly. In the meantime,
you can now view the original clip from the New Year’s
show here.
I’m proud to announce that
I have been appointed a Premier Coach for eWomenNetwork,
the #1 resource for connecting and promoting women
and their businesses. Read more about this wonderful
organization and its Premier Coaches here.

| Some
of you may know that I am a Board member of
an organization called Gabriel’s Angels,
(HTTP://PETSHELPINGKIDS.ORG/).
The mission of Gabriel’s Angels is to
deliver healing pet therapy to abused, neglected
and at-risk children, nurturing their ability
to love and trust, thereby freeing them from
the cycle of violence. We serve over 15,000
children each year through visits of pet therapy
teams to crisis centers and shelters around
Phoenix and Tucson to help nurture the necessary
core behaviors essential for normal, healthy
development. I am honored to be part of such
a noble effort. |

Earlier
this month, we held one of our most fun and
playful fundraisers, the Doggie Beach Party
during which, hundreds of dogs (and some owners)
donned their favorite seaside attire and competed
for prizes in the categories of Best Doggie
Beachwear, Best Doggie Body and Best Doggie
Bathing Suit. I’d never seen anything
like that in my life and wanted to share some
of the pictures with you. |
If
you’d like to learn more about the organization,
feel free to contact me, call the Gabriel’s
Angels office (480-460-5333) or visit the website
(HTTP://PETSHELPINGKIDS.ORG/).
You can see more pictures, courtesy of the ‘parents’
of the Best Beachwear winners, Steve & Lisa
Depies (pictured above with Penny & Teazle),

THE VALUE OF TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF
|
 |
|
|
  |
|
One of the issues I’ve been dealing with
frequently with my coaching clients has been underscoring
the absolute need for creating balance
in their lives and taking care of themselves.
Life,
these days, is very demanding. We often
feel indispensable and overwhelmed. It’s
quite easy to put all of your attention on delivering
results at work, shuttling the kids off to their
sports and social activities, helping them with
their homework, supporting aging parents in coping
with life, meeting your obligations with organizations
you lead, paying bills, cooking meals, cleaning
the house, doing the laundry, etc. Everything
seems to be urgent and critical, demanding immediate
attention. Where do YOU fit into this
equation? How are YOUR needs getting met?
Often
I hear, “There’s no time left over
for me.” Well, have you heard the old financial
adage, ‘Pay yourself first?’ I’m
proposing that you ‘Nurture yourself first’.
Remember the oxygen mask message the flight attendants
give at the start of all flights (if you even
pay attention to it anymore), “If your traveling
with small children, place your mask on first.
Then assist them with theirs.” After all,
if you crash from exhaustion get seriously ill
(or worse), who will take care of all the things
that you are now doing? Somehow, everyone will
manage. Why not get them to manage it while you
can still enjoy it?
Start
now! Make a list of 25 things you like
to do that bring you joy, relax you or
create a sense of peace and contentment.

Article: Stress Hardiness
© 2003, Loretta LaRoche, www.consciousone.com,

Dr.
Suzanne Kobasa developed the concept of Stress
Hardiness, or resistance to stress, at City University
in New York. Dr. Kobasa has studied many groups
of people who have very stressful occupations.
Those who seem to cope with their job stress,
having a "hardiness" to it, have three
specific characteristics. How do these apply to
you?
Commitment:
People who are high in commitment are fully involved
in what they are doing and they give it their
best effort--best shot. They have a curiosity
about whatever is happening to them versus feelings
of alienation from people or the environment.
Control:
People who feel that they can influence events
and surroundings, who feel that they can make
things happen. They a strong sense of self-efficacy
and an internal locus of control versus feelings
of powerlessness or feeling like a victim of circumstances.
Challenge:
People who take on life as a challenge welcome
new situations for the opportunities to learn,
to grow, to develop on a personal level, rather
than looking at everything new as a possible threat.
I
add a fourth "C" to this profile:
Closeness:
Everyone who wants to be stress hardy must have
one person or one hundred people with whom to
share the stress, a confidante who is willing
to be there when times are tough.
