Greetings!
The first day of summer is rapidly approaching. The Summer Solstice,
the longest day of the year, represents a celebration of the labor and
growth of prior season…a time for us to enjoy the fruits of our labor.
As you look forward to summer vacations, take a moment to reflect on
all that you have accomplished so far this year.

Last month was a banner month for Emerald Harvest Consulting,
LLC. First, we celebrated our 5 th anniversary having submitted
our corporate paperwork in May 2000 and completed our first consulting
project shortly thereafter. As you're probably aware, many businesses
fail within the first five years and I feel particularly blessed
to have reached this major milestone.
Also, the Grand Canyon Minority Supplier Development Council (GCMSDC)
named our company Class I, MBE Supplier of the Year (for 2004)!
The GCMSDC awards business owners with this prestigious designation
based on criteria which include successful demonstration of growth
in sales and employment while overcoming significant obstacles,
consistent high quality innovative products and services at competitive
prices and overcoming of personal hardships while contributing
to the growth and development of their community. It was a truly
an honor to receive such a tribute at their Awards Dinner.
We have also expanded our product and
service offerings for organizations and individuals and have updated
our website to reflect that expansion. Please take a few moments
to visit the site and see what's new: www.emeraldharvest.com/products.html |

I have been reading with great fascination Michael
E. Gerber's book, The E-Myth Revisited . Perhaps you have
already devoured and incorporated the concepts he's articulated.
If not, let me share and reflect on a few of the ideas he postulates.
One of the admonitions he makes is to “work on your business
not in it” and that line of his has been quoted far and
wide.
Gerber suggests putting a model he calls the Franchise
Prototype to work for you. (This is the model that allowed
McDonald's to grow into the giant it is today.) Gerber says 'Imagine
that your business (or function) is the prototype for 5,000 more
just like it, exactly like it.” How would you set it up so that
it could be replicated almost effortlessly?
He offers 6 rules to follow to win the game, but
I was most fascinated by one of them: The model will be operated
by people with the lowest possible level of skill. It seems
almost heretical to say something like that in this information
age we're in.

PIP Tip |
|
|
| Build in the expectation of continuous
improvement. Ask people to identify how things could work
more efficiently. Identify old assumptions that may no longer
be true. Challenge conventional wisdom about the market and
customers, your industry technology. Make it safe for people
to try new things. Encourage and embrace innovation. |
