Your Performance Improvement Partner™ Update

July, 2005

Greetings!

As I sit here having sizzled in the Arizona desert all season, I'm reminded of Nat King Cole's 1963 hit, ( Roll out those) Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer . Well, I'm can't say I've been enjoying the “lazy” part, as I've been pretty busy for quite a while (as have most of my colleagues and friends). I can however say, “I LOVE SUMMER!”

Hope you're having a good one yourself.

Message From the President

Long ago, I recognized that I was a committed, life-long learner. My collection of books could stock a small town library. I take personal development and business skill improvement courses regularly. I've used a cadre of personal advisors, coaches and counselors over the years to help me catapult myself to the next level in life or business and have even availed myself of their services to get me though some difficult and sticky situations. Additionally, I have quite a collection of CDs and audio programs from many experts whose names you would undoubtedly recognize and listen to the frequently in my car.

So it seemed natural that when my colleague, Dr. Joel Martin announced a week-end workshop she would be leading with the renowned Les Brown, I immediately jumped on the bandwagon to help bring the seminar to life.

This August 19 – 20, in Tempe, AZ Joel and Les are offering a retreat titled “ How to be a Positively Powerful Person ” named after Joel's book. The workshop will focus how to create better relationships, unlock new business abilities, improve interpersonal skills, manage diversity more effectively, and live your dreams with passion using the ten principles of her book. The ten steps include: the power of beliefs, feedback, education, make-believe, choice, responsibility & accountability, values, purpose, vision creation and dedication.

For more information, Click Here. The cost for the two days is $495 ($75 for non-profits). To register, click here.

As you complete your personal profile information, you will get to the section that reads- "OTHER PERSONAL INFORMATION".  In that section, you will encounter a little box asking for the Associates code in the Other Personal Information section at the beginning of the survey . Your Associates code is  "LORE”.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Feature Article - If You're Trying to Get Somewhere, Where Do You Start?

At the beginning, of course...right from where you are. If you were giving someone directions to get to New Orleans, LA, it would be helpful to know if they are currently in Albany, NY or Portland, OR. The directions would obviously be different. The same is true for life. If you are interested in improving some aspect of your performance, it's a good idea to get an idea of how you're currently doing: what your current starting point is.

Maybe you've taken those quizzes that many magazines are so fond of offering. Or perhaps you've taken a personality or career assessment for your job. Tests such as these come in a variety of shapes and sizes measuring a wide spectrum of skills, proclivities, and knowledge.

PIP Tip

Taking a stand when faced with an important issue needing a decision requires clear, powerful decision language. It also requires that you listen intently and respond to the opinions of others. As Stephen Covey stated in his best-selling book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People , ‘Seek first to understand, then to be understood”.

Relaxation CD Revisited
Last month, I'm embarrassed to say that the newsletter included a rather substantive error in it. The price for the Relaxation CD was listed as $9.95 when actually it was $19.95. So if you went to our shopping cart looking for that bargain, didn't find the bargain and therefore didn't buy the CD, I apologize for the error. The good news is that the price has been reduced and is now only $16.95. On top of that, I've added 5 audio clips for you to listen to so you can “try it before you buy it”. You'll have to scroll down the webpage a bit, but (more good news) the page is a lot shorter than it used to be. Click here to visit this page.
